Twinflower is a small, creeping, perennial shrub in the honeysuckle family, Caprifoliaceae . It is evergreen and is characterised by above-ground runners known as stolons from which numerous short aerial stems or shoots grow. The shoots are 4 – 6 cm. in height, up to 3 mm. in diameter and turn woody with age.
Twinflower Work The twinflower’s natural habitat is native pine woodlands and loss of its habitat has resulted in patches of the flowers being too far apart to be able to successfully pollinate. An innovative project has been put into action to help overcome this problem.
Twinflower, (Linnaea borealis), evergreen, creeping shrub of the family Caprifoliaceae, native to moist pinelands or cold bogs in northern regions of both hemispheres. It is named for the paired, nodding, bell-like white or pink flowers borne above a mat of small, roundish leaves.
Twinflower is confined to Scotland. The clearance of native woodlands before the 1930s resulted in severe losses of this little flower. Continued habitat destruction and changes in woodland management have now reduced this plant to a handful of about 50 unrelated sites.
Twin-flower is the treasure of the Finnish forests, common wherever there are conifers, even on pine heaths. Its favourite habitat however is large old fir forests that are still in their natural state, and whose forest floor is linked by a coherent network of moss. In these kinds of places there are no other herbs to compete with twin flower.
As nuanced as it is profound, Laura Luchetti’s skillful drama is an exploration of companionship, lost innocence, and shared destiny as these young beings try to construct a new life despite having been brought together by forces beyond their control.

Twinflower (Linnaea borealis) is a little waif of a plant found throughout the northern hemisphere in circumboreal habitats. Twinflower occurs in open forests, heaths, and open dry slopes in the mountains across the northern hemisphere from Siberia to Sweden and across North America.
The genus Linnaea was first formally described by Carl Linnaeus. The name had been used earlier by the Dutch botanist Jan Frederik Gronovius, and was given in honour of Linnaeus. Linnaeus adopted the name in 1753 in Species Plantarum for the then sole species Linnaea borealis, because it was his favourite plant.
Linnaea borealis is a species of flowering plant in the family Caprifoliaceae (the honeysuckle family). Until 2013, it was the only species in the genus Linnaea. It is a boreal to subarctic woodland subshrub, commonly known as twinflower (sometimes written twin flower).
